National Integrity Index – Local Authority Project Workshops
Transparency International (TI) Ireland’s National Integrity Index (NII) is designed to assess the systems and practices to promote integrity in each of Ireland’s 31 local authorities, based on the categories of Transparency, Accountability and Ethics. The first edition of the NII was released in 2018 with a second edition scheduled for publication in December 2019.
TI Ireland is hosting a series of private workshops on the NII for elected representatives and senior officials from the councils of Cork City, Cork County, Kerry, Kilkenny, Tipperary, Waterford, and Wexford.
The purpose of these workshops is to engage with a wide range of stakeholders in local government to ensure that all critical topics relating to local authorities are addressed in the upcoming NII report. There will also be a particular focus on providing practical recommendations for policymakers.
Each meeting will begin with a presentation by TI Ireland on the NII of Local Authorities. The workshops will provide an overview of the research project, as well an opportunity for participants to offer feedback on the project methodology employed to assess local authorities. Input from elected and appointed officials on the criteria to assess local authorities will be especially welcome.
