Event description

Description

Suitable for beginners.

Join us for a collaborative two-part workshop with Miceal Murray of Takingaleaf, where we will identify, study and transform wild native plants into a unique piece of silver jewellery.

For the first part of the day we will walk along the Royal Canal to explore the heritage, folklore and medicinal properties connected to our local flora. Miceal will highlight its lost potential in a world where we have become increasingly disconnected from the natural environment, and discuss the health benefits plants can provide in our day to day lives through a better understanding of their properties.

Later in the day, we will transform the plant samples we have collected into one-off pieces of silver jewellery. We will learn to make silicone moulds and use precious metal clay to sculpt amulets that symbolise our new appreciation of the biodiversity we are so rapidly loosing.

We will begin the day at Cross Guns Bridge and gradually work our way down to through Phibsborough to Stoneybatter where we will break for lunch. The Silver Precious Metal Clay workshop will take place during the afternoon in Bí URBAN. All materials will be provided. You will come away with your own, handcrafted, piece of silver jewellery and a renewed appreciation of the biodiversity at our doorstep.
