Description

NOVEMBER 2017 SYMPOSIA - Tuesday 14th & Wednesday 15th November (1-day & 2-day rates available)

It’s that time of year again! In this, ISTR's silver anniversary year, we are delighted to invite you to participate in our symposia designed to provide you with practical skills in two distinct but often complementary areas. Day 1 (delivered as always by ISTR's very hardworking Biosafety Steering Group) will concentrate on practical challenges faced by those working with biological organisms outside of containment laboratories while Day 2 (delivered in partnership with Aurora) will provide practical solutions to the safe management of a wide range of ionising and non-ionising radiation sources

Day 1: Working safely 'out of containment' looks at the various challenges faced in providing a safe working environment outside of the containment laboratory - from specialist imaging of live infectious material to providing a diagnostic service during an outbreak. We will also have an update on the challenges of laboratory fumigation - how do we select the most appropriate method and how do we validate it?

Day 2: Everything you need to know about radiation but were too afraid to ask! looks at radiation sources used by researchers from many disciplines. The topics covered will provide the non-radiation specialist with the tools to manage and monitor exposure to ionising radiation sources, optical radiation sources, (UV and lasers) and to implement an Electromagnetic field (EMF) management system. We will also explore the legislative requirements underpinning the safety professional's approach.

Please join us in celebrating our 25th Birthday in Manchester! The cost of attending is just £90/day or £170/2 days for ISTR Members.
