Open-Source Groundwater 3D Modelling
Open-Source Groundwater Modelling training for hydrogeologists.
About this event
IAH Ireland and Trinity College Dublin (TCD) are delighted to present this unique training opportunity on Open-Source Groundwater Modelling. The in-person training is provided by Mr. Frans Roelofsen and Mr. Joeri van Engelen of Deltares (Netherlands) in Museum Building in Trinity College Dublin for one full day.
There is an increasing array of data and tools available as open source resources. Deltares has developed the iMOD Suite to provide free and open source tools to efficiently build and visualize groundwater models.
iMOD Suite links the latest developments in the MODFLOW code and the changing requirements in the field of groundwater modelling. The iMOD Suite adopts several innovations which set it apart from other groundwater modelling software:
- A 3D viewer for both structured and unstructured grids
- A QGIS extension is provided to allow for visualization and interrogation of modelling results with open source GIS tools and background mapping
- An iMOD Python package designed to support converting your raw data to a fully defined MODFLOW model, with as less code as possible.
- Modern programming language Python that allow connecting directly to open source data
The training will cover the following:
- Introduction to the iMod Suite
- Detailed tutorials on model development
- Modelling workflow & Quality Control
- Accessing Open-Source Data (incl Irish data)
- Project Examples from Deltares
- Discussions on modelling challenges
