About this event
In 2018 the Inishowen Rivers Trust commissioned a study into the 'Opportunities for Natural Water Retention Measures in Inishowen'. These measures are natural techniques for slowing water in areas prone to flooding and has been used successfully in the UK. The study, funded by the OPW, was carried out by Prof. Mary Bourke and her MegaFloods team at Trinity College Dublin in collaboration with natural flood management expert Dr. Paul Quinn from Newcastle University.
The study looked into several catchment in Inishowen including rivers flowing through the towns of Clonmany, Carndonagh and Buncrana. At this event the results of the report will be presented by Prof Bourke and followed by a Q & A session. Following this we will invite the community to actively engage in discussing a possible project for Clonmany and what is involved. Understanding local flooding history and how the land is used are essential components for a project moving forward.
An Executive Summary of the NWRM report by Prof. Bourke will be available on the night but can also be downloaded from our website http://inishowenriverstrust.com/can-nature-based-solutions-provide-an-answer/irt_nwrm_execsummary/
