Event description
Listening to young voices for town regeneration. Event organised by Museum of Childhood Ireland, Heritage Council & Tralee Chamber Alliance

About this event

This event organised by the Museum of Childhood Ireland is part of the Collaborative Town Centre Health Check Programme from the Heritage Council

On Monday 18th October we launch “Our Town: Our Future” - Capturing the Voice of Children and Young People as they explore their role in revitalising Ireland’s Historic Town Centres.

The project comprises three specific strands for Post Primary, Primary and Preschool students.

The exciting pilot proposal launching in Tralee aims to contribute new perspectives on town centre environments across Ireland, through the voice of children and young people, opening up conversations about planning policy, practice, citizenship, climate change and sustainability.

Through engagement with schools, youth groups, students and adult stakeholders it is envisaged that children will begin to be included in the everyday realities of policy making and planning practice.

And Alison Harvey ( CTCHC-  The Heritage Council), and a team from the Museum of Childhood Ireland : Majella McAllister,  (Youth Voice panels for Post Primary ), Cliodhna Martin,  ( Reimagining Your Town Project -Primary) and Maria Soriano (The Seed Project - Preschools) will be on hand to explain all, along with guest speakers, including Jamie McNamara (Architectural Heritage Specialist) and Martha Farrell (Tralee Chamber Alliance)…

The speaker event is from 2pm but we will be available from 10.30 am in Tralee, as there will be Making Workshops and Engagements happening throughout the morning in local schools. Keep an eye out too as the first Youth Panel discussion launches on our website on Friday 20th October!

We are delighted and grateful to be supported by the Heritage Council under their CTCHC Programme, and would like to thank Tralee Chamber Alliance and Kerry County Council for their warm welcome to Tralee.

Do get in contact if you or your school would like to get involved, as an Islandwide rollout of the project will follow from November:
