The Department of Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht and Sport Ireland Outdoors are facilitating information sessions on the new Knowledge and Skills Framework for developing and maintaining Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure.

What knowledge and skills do you need to manage Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure
This course is made up of two short online sessions to introduce you to the new Knowledge and Skills Framework (ORIKS) and help you to use it.

Session One provided the background and basis for the Framework while Session Two will be in small groups and consist of a series of tasks to demonstrate how to use the Framework in your work.

If you have registered for or completed Session 1 you can now book Session 2 (max 10 people per session)

20th February 2026 - 2pm (Group 1&2)

20th February 2026 - 3.30pm (Group 1&2)

23rd February 2026 - 9.30am (Group 3)

23rd February 2026 - 11am (Group 3)

24th February 2026 - 3.30pm (Group 4)

26th February 2026 - 7.30pm (Group 1&2)

Places are limited to 10 people in each Session Two (i.e. maximum of 80 places available), so early booking is recommended - you need to attend Session One in order to take part in the second. Each session will be slightly targeted so if possible please choose a time which relates to the sector group you work in.

The four groups are:

1. Practitioners (those designing and building Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure for a living)

2. Rural Recreation Officers and Trail Management Groups (those involved in managing trail development)

3. Walking Clubs, Service Providers and Governing Bodies (those on the ‘user’ side of the equation)

4. Public sector bodies (those with a strategic interest in provision and management)

The information sessions will be held on Teams and a separate invitation will be sent out following registration.
