Lecture by Pádraic E. Moore on ‘Some Physical Facts & Psychic Effects of Curating Visual Art'

The Institute of Art, Design and Technology (IADT), Art & Research Collaboration (ARC) and MAVIS Alumni Network, in collaboration with Temple Bar Gallery + Studios are pleased to present a lecture by Irish writer, curator and art historian Pádraic E. Moore. This event is open to the public, as well as Alumni of the IADT MAVIS programme. Tickets are free but limited so please book your place.

Pádraic E. Moore's curatorial practice is distinguished by a desire to subjectively revisit overlooked episodes in the history of art. This is manifest in the methodology he applies in developing curatorial projects, public presentations and in my approach to writing texts. One area of research he has been engaged with investigating for some time is the influence of esoteric philosophies upon the literary & visual arts.

" In recent decades several scholars have explored how esoteric movements (such as The Theosophical Society) offered a vital catalyst for change in late nineteenth & early twentieth century art. However, insufficient attention has been given to how the contemporary cultural producers have embraced aesthetics & ideals informed by the esoteric tradition. Moreover, art history & criticism have not yet developed a method of analyzing the work of artists who refer to -or follow in- this tradition. The lecture I will present at IADT will give some insight into my practice in relation to several exhibitions I have curated over the past 5 years. I will also discuss the current exhibition I am developing for the Van Eyck Academie in Maastricht where I am currently on a year long curatorial residency."
