DSC/DSW Parent Support Champions present a series of workshops to support parents with various stages of child & youth development

About this event

The pandemic has given us more time with our children , the aim of the workshops are to highlight ways to make the most of this valuable time and how we can best support our children’s development for the future

The workshop's also strive to highlight ways that we can look after our wellbeing and our children's.

The workshops are targeted specifically for those living in Dublin, Ireland.

Workshop 1: Helping a Depressed Teenager

May 12th 2021 Time: 7-8pm Venue: Zoom

Presented by Dr John Sharry

Professor John Sharry is a social worker and family psychotherapist and founder of the Parents Plus Charity. He is co-developer of the award winning Parents Plus Adolescents Programme, and the best selling author of fourteen positive psychology and self-help book for families including Positive Parenting, and Parenting Teenagers.

As part of the DSC Parent Support Champions Project for 2021, Dr Sharry will deliver a series of workshops for parents to support the opening up of conversations around the mental health challenges our teens are faced with.

Workshop 2: Sharing Parenting Successfully Post Separation

Monday May 26th 2021 Time: 7pm Venue: Zoom

This workshop will support parents to understand the concept ‘shared parenting’. Getting into the business of shared parenting post separation can be challenging and parents can face many obstacles as they agree the best way forward, allowing them both play an important role in their child's life while respecting and supporting each other in doing so.

Workshop 3: Gifting Your Child in Daily Interaction Moments – Marte Meo Supportive Interaction (delivered in 3 parts)

The Golden Gift of Interaction - “Leading” your child through daily tasks – How to do it and what does your child develop.

Presenter: Colette O’ Donovan, Marte Meo Programme, Ireland

Colette is the Licensed Marte Marte Meo Supervisor in Ireland since 1995 and a specialist in the training and application of the Marte Meo supportive interaction method. She is passionate about supporting people to recognise and build on their supportive interaction skills that gift children and adults in everyday moments of interaction which supports their development and well being. Colette has extensive experience in delivering training at different levels in the Marte Meo method as well as presenting at workshops, seminars and conferences both nationally and internationally. She has supported agencies to develop Marte Meo supportive interaction booklets e.g 'Getting To Know Your Baby' and 'Elements of Supportive Interaction that Enhance a Cooperation Model with Young People'.

Workshop 6: 5 Week Baby Massage for Mother & Baby

Thursday 8th July - Thursday 5th August a total of 5 weeks

Venue: Zoom

Time: 10.30am-12pm

Regularly massaging your baby is a way to give them much more. More bonding time. More sensory stimulation. More healthy development.

One of the most important experiences for your baby’s happy development is your loving touch. Research reveals that routine touch and massage by a parent or loving caregiver are critical to a baby’s growth, communication and learning.
