Event description

Description

This event for water resource management professionals and researchers will include an educational workshop on passive sampling for emerging pollutants using Chemcatcher®, along with a buffet lunch and a chance to discuss your questions and applications with a panel of expert users. A key focus will be on monitoring pesticides in catchments used for drinking water abstraction.

It is free to attend for water resource management professionals and researchers, but you must register in advance, using the ticket option on the top right hand of this page. (For professionals and academia OUTSIDE the water/environment arena tickets cost £250)

Why attend?

Compared with traditional spot sampling, passive sampling is an extremely cost-effective means of understanding what is happening in a catchment or aquatic environment. It is capable of detecting contaminants at very low levels, capturing transient and episodic events and providing accurate, time-weighted average concentrations.

The day starts at 9.30am with registration and coffee and will include a number of case studies and technical presentations from Chemcatcher® users and experts:

  • Compare Chemcatcher® to other passive samplers - Are all passive samplers made equal? - Professor Graham Mills, University of Portsmouth.

  • Find out how Northern Ireland Water used Chemcatcher® to monitor acidic herbicides as part of their catchment management and raw water improvement programmes - Sandra Lacey and John McGrath, TelLab

  • Learn about using Chemcatcher® to monitor pesticides in surface water - Ian Townsend, Westcountry Rivers Trust

  • Find out about passive sampling calibrations - Kees Booij, PaSoc

  • See how Chemcatcher® can be used to understand the fate of organic polar pollutants - Adam Taylor, University of Portsmouth

Opening the event, we are delighted to have Professor Graham Mills, University of Portsmouth, one of the inventors of Chemcatcher®.
