Description

The Irish Red Cross is delighted to invite you to its latest photography exhibition 'People of Niger' from Irish award winning photojournalist Victor Lacken. This moving collection portrays daily life in the arid and challenging landscape of Niger, West Africa.

Exclusively launching in Galway city, the striking images were taken during the photographer's recent tour of the Irish Red Cross' development programmes in the Zinder region. Together, they demonstrate the tenacity of the Niger people as they battle against drought, desertification and the daily challenge to find safe water for their children.

As one of the world's poorest countries, 1.5 million people in Niger are at risk of death from hunger or thirst right now, 92% of those at risk are children. The Irish Red Cross is working with communities in Niger to bring access to safe water closer to their homes and to help them prepare for when drought inevitably strikes again. For more information about Niger and the Irish Red Cross' development work there, see www.redcross.ie/Niger
