Philosophy is a way of living. This course takes inspiration from the great philosophical teachings of East and West and focuses on knowing yourself and understanding the world around you. We can awaken the best in ourselves through the practical application of the wisdom we discover from these teachings. We aspire to develop values and qualities such as generosity, compassion, patience and courage. We learn to develop inner strength with which we can confidently face the many challenges of an ever-changing world.
As human beings one of our biggest challenges is learning how to live together. Therefore we also explore what it means to be a philosopher citizen, discovering that we can have a positive impact on the world around us by assuming our responsibility. Through group dialogue and voluntary actions we discover that everyone is capable of contributing to the collectivity, capable of improving relationships with others and capable of living in harmony with the Laws of Nature.
The class topics are based around ethics, political philosophy and philosophy of history. Practical exercises are integrated into the weekly classes. The aim is to develop philosophical attitudes and behaviour by harmonising our actions with our thoughts and feelings. Wisdom is knowledge that transforms, giving us the opportunity to improve ourselves and the world.
