About this event
Poetry on the Edge brings professional writers to Ballina for school and community engagement. The aim of the project is to make creative writing and literarture accessible for a variety of audiences.
Poet Kevin Higgins will faciliate a two part poetry workshop over two evenings:
Weds 13th October 7pm - Part 1
Thurs 14th October 7pm - Part 2
Kevin Higgins’ best-selling first collection, The Boy with No Face, published by Salmon Poetry, was short-listed for the 2006 Strong Award for Best First Collection by an Irish poet. Kevin's second collection of poems, Time Gentlemen, Please, was published in 2008 by Salmon Poetry and his poetry is discussed in The Cambridge Introduction to Modern Irish Poetry. His other collections are Frightening New Furniture (2010), Sex and Death at Merlin Park Hospital (2019), The Ghost in the Lobby (2014), all published by Salmon. In 2017, Salmon published his Song of Songs 2.0 New & Selected Poems. His other books include Mentioning the War: Essays and Reviews 1999-2011 (Salmon, 2012), and The Colour Yellow & The Number 19: Negative Thoughts That Helped One Man Mostly Retain His Sanity During 2020 (2020). The Stinging Fly magazine has described Kevin as “likely the most widely read living poet in Ireland” Kevin’s sixth full poetry collection, Ecstatic, will be published by Salmon in March 2022.
This booking is for both Part 1 and Part 2 of Kevin Higgins workshop.
It also includes admission to Poetry on the Edge: Readings which takes place Friday 15th October at 9:30pm in the Shambles Bar, Ballina Manor Hotel.
