Event description

Description

The chasm between music and literature can at times be wide, at times as slender as a pen. Some of literature’s great poets have had their work live on in the form of songs and ballads, and some of music’s sweetest songs began their lives as poems. ‘Bring Your Limericks to Limerick’ is delighted to present a recital of poetry and music exploring the common themes present in some of our greatest poems and music. ‘Poetry & Song’ will feature local poets Michael Durack and Fiona Clark Echlin who will present their own original work while Elena McLeod (soprano, Limerick Choral Union, Lyric Opera), Eve Stafford (soprano, Opera Workshop) and Conor Gibbons (tenor, Irish National Opera) will explore through art songs (poems set to music) themes presented by the poets and universal themes such as love, loss and the ephemeral. With music by Bridge, Dowland, Harty, Quilter and more, this will be an afternoon of culture not to be missed, all in the charming setting of The Captain’s Room at the Hunt Museum. Join us as we explore original poetry and poems that have been set to music.
