Port Walks: Artist & Walkers Meet-up
Mon 1 May 2017, 10:30 – 11:30 IST
Download, Walk & Listen
An opportunity to engage with your surroundings through a site specific public artwork
Port Walks is an online audio project connecting Dublin Port Seafarers with Dublin Port Walkers. On May 1st the artist Sheelagh Broderick is holding a public meet up with walkers for a "work in progress" review. Registered walkers will be invited to download the first of several project podcasts and to listen to it while taking a walk on the Great South Wall. The first podcast addresses the radical reconfiguration of contemporary shipping and seafaring in the last 50 years. Sheelagh will be on hand to answer questions before and afterwards.
We will meet at the Sluice house which is the boarded up single-story, flatroofed, stone building at the point where the Great South Wall protrudes as a jetty into Dublin Bay. The walk from the Sluice House along the South Great Wall to Poolbeg Lighthouse and back is just under 4km long and should take about 40 minutes if walking briskly and without stopping. The surface is uneven underfoot and walkers are advised to exercise caution while on the wall.
The podcast is available for download on portwalks.ie/podcasts as well as other platform providers (iTunes /SoundCloud). Walkers should download content prior to arrival. In the event that anyone has a difficulty with downloads, please come a little earlier than the advertised time for assistance. The project is supported by a Port Perspectives Commission managed by Business to Arts.

What can I bring into the event?
Please download the Podcast to your mobile device prior to arrival. The podcast is also avilable on iTunes & Soundcloud. If you are having difficulties in downloading, please come a little earlier than the advertised time so I can download at the site. I will have a mobile wifi dongle with me so no data costs will accrue. Don't forget to bring your headphones.
How can I contact the organiser with any questions?
Please email me
Is my registration fee or ticket transferrable?
Yes. Tickets are very limited due to space constraints, so if you can't come please give the ticket to someone who can or cancel it on Eventbrite
Is it ok if the name on my ticket or registration doesn't match the person who attends?
A ticket is not tied to an individual - it is just to ensure that a small safe number of people congregate at the Sluice House. If you can't come please give the ticket to someone who can or cancel it on Eventbrite
