Practical portrait painting workshop with Lili Heller.

About this event

Join artist Lili Heller for this practical portrait painting with tips on structural drawing, on skin tone colour making, on different textures and on shading and contrast and creating volume in portraits in this participatory workshop with clear and instructive introduction followed by live step-by-step demonstrations. This workshop is suitable for beginners and those wishing to refresh or build on their knowledge and brush up on their painting techniques.

Material required:

- Primary colours (watercolour, or gouache) (acrylic would be ok but not ideal as it is permanent) . Colours: primary red called magenta, or primary blue called cyan, primary yellow, dark brown, or black (pads, or tubes) (If primary colours not available for watercolour, have New Gamboge - yellow -, Quinacridone Rose - red -, Ultramarine - blue -, Burnt Umber)

- A few pieces of thick enough white paper or white card to try colours on. For the main piece: white thick watercolour paper (or white card, or white canvas - stretched or not to a wood frame -, or canvased panel, or white prepared wood panel (size: anything around A4)

- A minimum of 3 brushes. One small pointy round, one large flat (size 10 minimum), one hog bristle (size 10 minimum). The more variety of size, shape and bristle types the better.

- A palette (a white compartmented one is ideal)

- A container for water

- A rag or some kitchen roll

- If possible, a plugged hairdryer handy

  • The email used to book this workshop will be visible to the facilitator/co-host of this workshop, you will only be contacted directly if there is a technical issue during the workshop by the facilitator/co-host. Emails will not be used for any other purpose.
  • The 'waiting room' feature is enabled, meaning that anyone accessing the session has to be approved by the person 'hosting' the session. We will check your name against our bookings before admitting you to the workshop. This ensures all participants have booked for the event. For this reason, please ensure your ZOOM username/profile name matches the name used to book the event.
