Positioning Killarney as a Green Destination - Supporting Tidy Towns Campaign

Briefing - 1st May - The Brehon Hotel - 9.30am to 12.30pm

Killarney won the National Tidy Town award in 2011.  In 2017 Killarney scored 328 points and won the Category F - 12 other towns had higher scores with Birdhill the top with 332.   The section with lowest points was in Sustainable Waste and Resource Management 21/50 and even Birdhill, the 2017 National Winner only had a score of 23/50.  A key part of the review questioned the results from engagement with the Green Hospitality Programme and looked for data for 2018.

There is a need to take a more focused approach to this part of the awards and we have asked Green Hospitality to run a workshop to brief the accommodation sector on how it can increase its support with more businesses becoming recognised for their environmental performance and by starting the process whereby Killarney can achieve Green Destination Status.

Green Hospitality will also show businesses how going "Green" can result in substantial reductions in costs and will brief attendees on the new Lighting Support Scheme recently launched by SEAI and the forthcoming Renewable Heating Support Scheme.

Who should Attend?   Hotel and Accommodation owners and senior managers, accountants and financial controllers

Hotels, Tourism and Hospitality businesses can engage with at any support level - be it Energy management, site visit reviews, training, workshops/Master Classes, benchmarking, etc.  Whatever your need - engage with us. Certification

Certification is an optional choice for businesses, many larger hospitality businesses - especially hotels - are finding that their customers and business clients are expecting them to have programmes in place. Eco-label and Awards are recognised both nationally and internationally as standards that allow members achieve good environmental performance and allow visitors to choose "Greener" hospitality businesses knowing that defined criteria are being implemented and monitored.

The key focus of the certification programmes is to embed a system within the business that focuses on ongoing measurement and actions that will reduce Energy, Water & Waste costs. CSR Mark of Good Practice, Hotels is developing this mark to bring together under one identity the environmental, employee and community activities hotels are engaged in.  This CSR Mark of Good Practice will single out those hotels that are leaders within the sector and their communities and will enable them to promote their hotel to businesses across Ireland who adopt CSR as a business requirement.
