About this event

To mark Pride Month, Castletymon library present celebrated authors Paul McVeigh and Jamie O'Connell in conversation. Paul and Jamie will discuss, among other things, libraries, queer literature and the importance of Pride.

Paul McVeigh: Paul began his writing career as a playwright and comedy writer. His short stories have appeared in numerous anthologies, journals and newspapers, as well as, on BBC Radio, and Sky Arts. He co-edited Belfast Stories and edited The 32: An Anthology of Irish Working Class Voices, as well as, Queer Love. He co-founded London Short Story Festival and his writing has been translated into seven languages. Paul's debut novel, The Good Son, won The Polari First Novel Prize and The McCrea Literary Award, and was shortlisted for many others including The Prix du Roman Cezam.

Jamie O'Connell: Jamie O’Connell's debut novel, Diving for Pearls (Doubleday) was published in June 2021. His work has been Highly Commended by the Costa Short Story Award and the An Post Irish Book Award Writing.ie Short Story of the Year. He has been long-listed for BBC Radio 4 Opening Lines Short Story Competition and short-listed for the Maeve Binchy Travel Award and the Sky Arts Futures Fund. His short fiction has been published in a number of journals, featured on TV3, RTE Radio and BBC Radio, and he has read at many festivals and universities in Ireland, China, Spain and the USA. He has received bursaries from The Arts Council of Ireland, Culture Ireland, Dublin City Council and Cork City Council.
