Dear colleagues,

It is with great pleasure that the UCD Earth Institute invites you to an evening at the Royal Irish Academy with a very special invited guest, Prof. Fred Allendorf.

When: Thursday the 28th September 6-9pm. Event starts at 6.30pm.

The title of the talk is: Population genomics: Do we need theory or can we answer all our questions by just generating more data?

Prof. Allendorf is an emeritus professor at University of Montana and has won numerous awards such as the Molecular Ecology Prize by the science journal Molecular Ecology 2015 where he was honoured as one of the founders of the field of conservation genetics.

Prof. Allendorf is also a former president of the American Genetic Association and has been the director of the US National Science Foundation’s Population Biology Program. He has published numerous seminal papers on population genetics through his career as well as having authored several book within the field. For instance, Prof. Allendorf recently authored a book on the application of genetics to conservation of endangered species titled “Conservation and the Genetics of Populations” together with Prof. Gordon Luikart from the University of Montana and Prof. Sally Aitken from the University of British Columbia.
