Event description
ARAN: ARTIFACT, CULTURE, LAND, 3RD LEVEL TEXTILE DESIGN STUDENTS PROJECT

About this Event

This project is a response to ARAN, interpreted by 3rd level Textiles Design students from the Centre for Creative Arts & Media at Galway Mayo Institute of Technology. Work is design process led and included drawing, colour studies, digitally printed scarves, sample weaving and garments.

The students were given a brief that included Aran knit and landscape as a springboard as well as a field study and photography day at the Aran Islands and asked to use this natural environment as inspiration for new colour and design in their textiles and garments. The use of wool in their work formed part of the brief. Each student produced a unique view in drawings and photography, fabric print and weaving, producing design work that reflected the complex tapestry of Aran knit, artefact and landscape. This project is part of the four-year Textile Fashion Degree course requirement and assists students in developing their design skills.
