What is public and patient involvement (PPI) in research?
Public and patient involvement in research is an approach to research where the people who are likely be affected by the results of the research are directly involved in research decision-making: decisions on research topics, on what research should aim to improve (called research outcomes), on research plans, and on the communication of research results. Researchers and people with lived experiences relevant to the research work together in partnerships, leading to research that is more relevant and has more potential to have a positive impact.
