Purple House Coast2Coast Cycle 2020
Event Information
About this Event
Friday afternoon 4th September 2020: The cyclists will travel by coach to Kinvara in Galway.
Saturday 5th September 2020: Cycle from Galway to Tullamore.
Sunday 6th September 2020: Cycle from Tullamore to the finish on Bray Seafront.
Leaving from Kinvara this two-day cycle challenge traverses the country to arrive in Bray along the promenade overlooking the Irish Sea. The route will be on well researched paved roads through scenic countryside utilizing secondary and tertiary roads to minimize traffic and ensure the cycling is enjoyable.
The terrain is not unduly challenging, with no major climbs – the maximum elevation is 164 metres with a 3% gradient over 1.5km to reach this point. However, it is pleasantly undulating and the second day at 120km is a long cycle and therefore some training would be beneficial to maximise the enjoyment of the ride.
Friday 4th September - Transfer to Kinvara
We will have a transfer bus to bring us to the start of the challenge in Kinvara. It will leave Bray at 2.30pm and be in Kinvara by 6pm after you get settled in the hotel we will have dinner and a pre-tour chat about the next two days and it will also be a chance to get to know everybody on the trip.
Saturday 5th September - Kinvara to Tullamore (124km)
We start the cycle out of Kinvara and head inland heading east towards the mighty Shannon. We will be on the small back roads connecting the midlands farms and small villages that are rarely seen. As we move along the unspoilt countryside we will cross the Shannon then we cycle past the bogs and into Tullamore to our hotel and a well earned rest and dinner.
Sunday 6th September - Tullamore to Bray (120km)
We keep heading east on quiet backroads towards the river Liffey, heralding our arrival into the east. Here we pass by farms and unspoilt countryside, parts of the country that most people rarely see. Finally, we make our way into Dublin and get our first glimpse of the sea, before heading south towards Bray. We then cycle to Bray beach and finish and the bandstand, and enjoy a well-earned celebration dinner in the Martello. Of course, the will be time for the traditional swim before dinner!
