Join Democrats Abroad Ireland for a great night of drama on the Peacock Stage at the Abbey Theatre. Quietly is a "short, sharp play looking at the legacy of the Northern Ireland Troubles... & lurking underneath... there's the question about immigration and how Northern Ireland today is faring with a different population in its midst." Quietly won both Best Play at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and Best Actor for Patrick O'Kane who will be appearing in this production.

Jimmy and Ian, are meeting for the first time. The Polish barman has problems of his own. He is being bombarded by text messages and really doesn’t want to deal with them. However, his problems pale in comparison to the extraordinary story that he bears witness to as the two men recall a fateful evening in 1974 which changed both their lives forever. Featuring two powerful performances from Declan Conlon and Patrick O’Kane, watching them indulge in their verbal sparring match is like being taken on a rollercoaster ride with the frenetic pace barely letting up. It is impossible not to be moved by the fate that befell them both and there are enough twists and turns in the story to keep you fully engaged. Every time you think that nothing else can happen to shock you, McCafferty pulls something else out of the bag and by the time it is over you are as emotionally exhausted as the characters must be. This has been garnering rave reviews and rightly so, and is a timely reminder of the suffering endured by so many in the North during the troubles. A must see. (from DailyUpdate.ie)

Democrats Abroad Ireland

Democrats Abroad Ireland are a diverse group of US citizens from many backgrounds - American-born, Irish returned emigrants from the US, and people from elsewhere - working towards the election of Democratic candidates.

We engage in voter registration, fundraising, phone-banking, and other strategies to strengthen the Democratic party.  We meet monthly to plan, encourage voter registration, and discuss topics of the day.  And we have quite a bit of fun along the way too.

If you are an American citizen, you're welcome to join us! First - register to vote at www.votefromabroad.org, and second - join Democrats Abroad!
