Event description
A Study Day to encourage and promote further research in this outstanding example of architecture in Ireland

About this Event

Rathfarnham Castle was constructed for Adam Loftus, Lord Chancellor of Ireland, in c, 1583. The rationale of this Study Day is to encourage and promote further research into this outstanding example of architecture in Ireland. Speakers will address a broad range of subjects that will present some new insights into the building and its owners. The architectural context of Rathfarnham Castle, its interior decoration and garden setting through the centuries will be explored. On-going research into the rich archaeological finds on the site has provided some exciting new information about the production of luxury items in seventeenth century Ireland. It is hoped that the day will provoke lively discussion and participation from the attendees.
