Back by popular demand for a 5th year running, Read Dubliners by Bike invites you to tour the streets, pubs and historic buildings in which Joyce set his classic Dubliners stories, whilst you listen to his stories in situ, as they are told and performed for you on headphones by a large ensemble cast led by the celebrated Irish actor Barry Mc Govern.
Led by James Joyce's Dubliners’ director Alice Coghlan, this gentle 2.5 hour bicycle tour guides the enthusiast across Joyce’s city, from his teen years in North Richmond Street, to The Boarding House of Hardwicke Street, to An Encounter in Ringsend, to Eveline at the North Wall, and finally to the Temple Bar of Counterparts.
Our bicycle tour tickets also include a bun with the boys of An Encounter at Dublin Port, and later on, the optional extra of traditional Dublin food and a glass of porter at Farringtons, the historical pub of Counterparts. As Farringtons will explain, this cask porter is just like the ‘gp’ Mr Farrington so enjoys during Joyce’s classic story.
‘Brilliantly delivered... an atmospheric journey through Edwardian Dublin with flawless dramatisations of the stories...it is spine tingling stuff...’ Daragh Reddin Metro
‘It’s a joyous celebration not just of Joyce but of parts of Dublin that many natives, never mind tourists, rarely see... beautifully written, beautifully performed stories ...Joyce would love it.’ The Irish Times
