This year it will be a 2 day event incorporating a day of workshops followed by a day of talks and the venue is the Clayton Hotel Cork City located on Lapp’s Quay.

RebelCon will feature a line up of more than 20 local, national and international speakers with a wealth of software industry experience including Melissa Perri, Sam Newman and Randy Shoup. Workshops and talks will span the latest technology, cultural and development practices in the software industry.

When selecting a ticket you have a choice between Workshop + Conference (access to both days - select the workshop you wish to attend) or Conference only (June 22nd).

Pick from 4 full-day Workshops (June 21st, 09:00 - 17:00)

All workshop tickets include access to the Conference day on June 22nd.

Designing Microservices (Sam Newman)

There is lots of theory out there about microservice architecture, but how often do you get to put that knowledge into practice? It’s not feasible to re-architect your real system often, and certainly not in a single day, or is it? This brand new workshop from the author of Building Microservices gives you a safe space to explore ideas behind microservice architectures with peers from other organisations.

In this workshop, we’ll share some framing for micro service architectures that explore the various forces that can drive the design and evolution of microservices, and then you’ll participate in a series of interactive architectural kata exercises to put your new found knowledge to the test. Afterwards, you’ll have a series of tools to take back to your own organisations to put into practice.

Scaling Technology and Organizations Together (Randy Shoup)

Successful Internet companies are built on a foundation of excellent culture, efficient organization, and solid technology. As a company needs to scale, all of these parts of the foundation need to grow and scale with it. This tutorial will provide a deep dive into modern best practices at innovative companies in Silicon Valley for scaling culture, organization, and technology.

Driven primarily by the presenter’s experience ranging from small Valley startups to Google and eBay, we will learn about:

- Organizing engineering teams for innovation and velocity
- Maintaining a culture of learning and risk-taking
- Attracting and retaining excellent engineering talen
- Developing and sustaining effective engineering processes and methodologies
- Architecting scalable, high-quality, resilient software systems
- We will conclude with recommendations on how to start implementing changes to your own organizational team structure, processes, and development practices.

Design Sprint Facilitator Workshop on Jake Knapp’s Process (Raomal & Rohan Perera)

How to Solve Big Problems and Test New Ideas in Just 5 Days?

How many meetings and discussions does it take before you can be sure you have the right solution? What’s the most important place to focus your effort, and how do you start? What will your idea look like in real life? Entrepreneurs and leaders face big questions every day. Now there’s a surefire way to answer these important questions; the SPRINT. Jake Knapp created the five-day process at Google, where sprints were used on everything from Google Search to Google X.

Valuable Automation in Agile Testing (Richard Bradshaw)

When talking about testing, hearing the word automation usually means automated tests, to some they are synonyms. But not to Richard Bradshaw. In his eyes Automation is integral to delivering software and even more so in delivering quality software. During this workshop, we’re going to discuss and explore ways we can use Automation to support our testing efforts far beyond automated checks.
