Event description
A fantastic opportunity for singers from inside and outside of the Academy to pursue musical excellence

About this Event

The RIAM Youth Choir Summer Course invites singers from inside and outside of the Academy to spend a week honing their choral skills.

This one-week intensive course will give young singers age 13-18 the opportunity to immerse themselves in choral singing and will provide the perfect environment for them to develop their ensemble-singing, aural & musicianship skills, and healthy vocal technique.

Led by the founder of Dublin Youth Choir, Lynsey Callaghan, participants will cover a broad range of repertoire, from renaissance polyphony to joyful spirituals and contemporary compositions by living composers.

Singers will also have the option to audition for solo parts in the final performance, and soloists from each voice part will get the chance to fine-tune their performance in a member of the Royal Irish Academy of Music's Vocal Faculty.

Lynsey Callaghan is a member of the Musicianship Faculty at the Royal Irish Academy of Music and the founder of Dublin Youth Choir. She has studied at the Kodály Institute of the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music in Hungary and completed a master's degree in choral conducting at the Royal Irish Academy of Music. She is Artistic Director of Dublin Youth Choir, the Belfast Philharmonic Youth and Chamber Choirs and Cross Border Youth Choir. She has conducted the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra, the RTÉ Concert Orchestra, and the Ulster Orchestra, and has worked as a musicianship tutor for the National Youth Choirs of Great Britain, Irish Youth Choir, Ulster Youth Choir and Youth Choir Kenya.
