Description

Tommy Boland, a native of Kilanerin and still living in the parish, is Associate Professor of Ruminant Nutrition in the School of Agriculture and Food Science in University College Dublin. Tommy has almost two decades of experience in ruminant nutrition research covering topics such as grassland management, animal health and performance and reducing methane emissions and nitrogen excretion. More recently his work has focused on the use of Multi-species grasslands in beef, sheep and dairy production systems. Tommy has published more than 100 scientific papers, has presented his work at conferences nationally and internationally, and is adjunct Associate Professor of Sheep husbandry in Massey University, New Zealand. He sits on numerous advisory committees in the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine ad Bord Bia and was lead organiser of the internationally renowned Greenhouse Gas and Animal Agriculture Conference held in Dublin in 2013
