SAI Annual Conference
Event Information
About this event
Conference Overview
The SAI Annual Conference provides a unique opportunity for sociologists across the island and internationally, working in all fields to present research and engage in debate with each other. This year, the focus is on the theme 'Home' - addressing more specific topics such as belonging and identity; family, community and subculture; neighbourhood; care and socialisation; domestic divisions of labour; safety in the home; territory and collective identity; citizenship, migration, multiculturalism, racism and exclusion; housing policy; homelessness; and the housing crisis, among others. Questions of home and housing have become central politcal question, and action on them is crucial for a more socially just society. Sociology as a discipline has a critical contribution to make to these crucial contemporary debates.
The SAI is delighted and grateful to be hosted by the Technological University of the Shannon. The conference will take place on its state of the art campus.
The conference dinner on the 13th of May will take place in Munster Rugby's home, Thomand Park, near to TUS. Spaces for this are limited to 60, so you should buy dinner tickets immediately if you are interested in attending.
Tickets
Attendees should purchase the ticket that applies to their status. Only SAI Members are eligible to purchase tickets listed as for SAI Members. If you wish to join the SAI, you can do so at this link: https://www.sociology.ie. Full Membership is €55 and Postgraduate / Low Wager Membership is €25. Only TUS staff and students are eligible to purchase the TUS Staff and Student Ticket. We will have a registration desk at the conference to welcome you to the conference, check registration, and give you your packs.
The difference in registration prices is to offer a benefit to members and offer recognition of their participation in and support of the Association, to encourage and facilitate participation for early-career and precarious academics / researchers, and to reciprocate the hospitality of TUS in providing us with a venue.
The early-bird conference rate is available until March 31st, so please register as soon as is possible.
Conference Dinner
The conference dinner will be held in Thomond Park, closeby TUS Moylish campus. The fee is €32 for the meal that will be served there. We are limited to 60 places for the booking, so please purchase a ticket early alongside your ticket.
