Event description
This 6 week course is for you if thinking of starting a business or want new approaches to grow your existing business

About this Event

Thinking of starting your own business? - Whether you have a business idea, or just love the thought of working for yourself, this 6wk course will provide the practical steps to make it reality.

Helping unravel the fuzziness of an idea into a business reality. We offer practical ways to challenge and developing your startup idea.

This course follows the 4-step Lift One Works approach to getting your startup off the ground. It will provide case studies and practical approaches to user and market research, taking you from idea to helping you create business concepts to test early on potential customers.

The course includes the following areas;

Stage 1: Learn

Understand the current marketplace and competition. What are the behaviours of existing customers, what new research or trends exist.

Stage 2: Immerse and Imagine

Immersing into the world of the user by questioning, observations, interactions and analysis to gain new insights. At the end of this stage, it is time to generate new ideas and imagine a world of possibilities both practical and far reaching.

Stage 3: Find

Following the ideation workshop, the best ideas would then be identified to select concepts for prototyping, and user testing. This stage aims to identify viable, feasible and desirable concepts which meet customers needs.

Stage 4: Test, Try, Talk

Design Thinking is an iterative process for designing to meet user needs. Taking on the feedback from “Stage 3: Find”, the concepts may be rejected, or further developed before completing testing with user. Getting you ready for launch.

Meet the Business Owners

As part of the course we will also hear from business owners who will share their story and learnings.

Dates: 23rd Mar, 30th Mar, 20th Apr, 27th Apr, 11th May, 18th May

Why attend?

From personal experience, I know how hard it is to get started in business - you have lots of ideas, but they are just not turning into viable business ideas. On top of that when you attend courses or networks, it is often assumed you have all the answers to the important questions like "What's your business", “Who are your customers?”, “What is the market size?” without providing an approach to getting these. Design thinking is a non-linear, iterative process which seeks to understand users, challenge assumptions, redefine problems and create innovative solutions to prototype and test. By combining my academic background in Design Innovation and 20 years industry experience, I have researched and created “Yes to the Startup” workshops and training courses targeted at aspiring entrepreneurs.
