Sculpturally Speaking: Live talk with artist and curatorial team representing Ireland at the Venice Biennale 2022

Saturday 24 April, 11am-12pm

Artist, Niamh O’Malley (pictured centre) and the Temple Bar Gallery + Studios Curatorial Team, Clíodhna Shaffrey and Michael Hill, will present individual illustrated talks reflecting on various aspects of sculpture.

Presentations will be followed by a Q&A with the audience.

Niamh O’Malley was born in Co. Mayo, Ireland, and lives and works in Dublin. O’Malley’s recent solo exhibitions include John Hansard Gallery, Southampton (Forthcoming 2021), mother’s tankstation Dublin (2020), Royal Hibernian Academy, Dublin (2019), Lismore Castle Arts (2019), Grazer Kunstverein (2018), Bluecoat, Liverpool (2015), The Douglas Hyde Gallery, Dublin (2017 and 2015). Selected group exhibitions include Berwick Film & Media Arts Festival; CAG, Vancouver; eva International, Limerick; Eli & Edythe Broad Museum, Michigan; Irish Museum of Modern Art, Dublin. A monograph of Niamh O’Malley’s work was published by the Royal Hibernian Academy in 2019, with texts by the artist, Claire-Louise Bennett and Isobel Harbison.

Clíodhna Shaffrey is Director of Temple Bar Gallery + Studios. She was previously the Visual Arts Advisor to the Arts Council of Ireland, and Arts Officer with two local authorities in Ireland. She has worked extensively as an independent curator producing exhibitions, festivals, public art commissions, collaborative research projects, and writing. Across a diverse range of creative work, policy, arts planning, and curation, she remains committed to nurturing artistic practices and advocates for the right conditions for artists to create and make work.

Michael Hill is Programme Curator at Temple Bar Gallery + Studios. He has previously worked in some of Ireland’s leading public and private contemporary art galleries including the Douglas Hyde Gallery, Trinity College Dublin (2008-2017). He has curated institutional solo exhibitions by several artists who have represented their countries at the Venice Biennale (including Sean Lynch, Pilvi Takala, Sean Edwards, Bárbara Wagner & Benjamin de Burca), and is invested in emerging Irish practices and independent publishing. He is a Board Member of Askeaton Contemporary Arts.
