Description

Self Care with Art Therapy - One Day Personal Development Course

Next Start Date: Saturday 16th September 2017
Time: 10am-5pm
Venue: Dublin West
Fees: €85 (€75 for PCI College Student & Graduates)

In a fast paced world where information and work overload are part of the busy routines of everyday life, it can be difficult to find time for self-care. Art therapy is one way of getting in touch with a more playful creative side of the self and releasing accumulated stresses and strains. This workshop introduces participants to the practice (and a little of the theory) of art therapy. It is mainly experiential with a focus on learning through doing, exploring different modes of expression using a variety of art materials and processes in a non-judgmental spontaneous way.

Creative expression through art making has powerful therapeutic benefits and this form of expression is available to everyone. You do not have to be 'good at art' to participate, there is no right or wrong way to do it and no special ability needed. The emphasis is on the process and individual expression, not on the visual and aesthetic result or effect. Sometimes words are not enough and through drawing, painting and image making we can gain a fresh perspective on our inner world and a safe and creative way of exploring it. Doodling, drawing and becoming involved in the creation of an image or object can allow us time to enter into a state of flow as outlined by Mihalyi Csikszenmihhalyi.

"When we are involved in (creativity), we feel that we are living more fully than during the rest of life," Csikszentmihalyi said during a TED talk in 2004. "You know that what you need to do is possible to do, even though difficult, and sense of time disappears. You forget yourself. You feel part of something larger."

If you would like to explore your creative playful side and find ways to incorporate art making activity into your own self-care then come along and join us for the art therapy workshop. All the art materials and paper are supplied but bring an A4 unlined sketchbook (cheap is fine) as we will be doing some visual journaling also.

Eligibility:
No professional experience necessary for our Short Term courses, they are for anyone to enjoy. We hope you enjoy the experience.
