Event description
St Patrick’s Mental Health Services and Pieta House host the fifth annual Self-Harm Awareness Conference to mark Self-Injury Awareness Day.

About this Event

Taking place in St Patrick's University Hospital, the conference aims to increase awareness and understanding around self-harm, and is open to healthcare professionals, social care and education providers, parents, carers, and policy-makers.

Speakers

While screenwriter and best-selling children’s author Dave Rudden joins us a special guest speaker to explore his personal experience of self-harm, other presenters and contributors include:

• Dr Caroline Clements, Project Manager of the Manchester Self-Harm Project and Research Associate at the Division of Psychology and Mental Health at the University of Manchester

• Dr Colman Noctor, Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist at St Patrick's Mental Health Services

• Dr Anne Jeffers, Consultant Psychiatrist and National Clinical Lead for the Health Service Executive (HSE) National Clinical Care Programme for people presenting to emergency departments following self-harm

• Kim Dempsey and Keeva Tallon of Pieta House’s Resilience Academy

• Representatives of the Tallaght Travellers Community Development Project.

Format of the conference

This year, we are offering two attendance options - with morning session or full-day tickets available - to reflect different learning needs and interests.

The morning session will focus on self-harm and young people; this session will be of interest to teachers, parents or carers, and those working with young people, along with healthcare professionals.

Meanwhile, the afternoon session will focus on healthcare professionals working directly with people experiencing self-harm, such as psychotherapists, general practitioners, nurses and more.

Light refreshments will be provided during the day, with lunch available for attendees with a full-day ticket.

Certification

Attendees of the conference will receive Certificates of Attendance and will be eligible for Continuous Professional Development (CPD) points from a number of awarding bodies. Full details on CPD availability will be shared shortly.

Accessibility

An Irish Sign Language (ISL) interpreter will join us on the day, and our venue is wheelchair-accessible.

Please let us know if you have any particular accessibility requirements to assist with our preparations for the day.
