Event description

Description

This seminar will provide information and support to Youth Theatre Ireland affiliated youth theatres on meeting their legal obligations under the provisions of the Children First Act 2015, as commenced on 11th December 2017.

As communicated in the advice sheet circulated in November 2017, from 11th March 2018, it will be a legal requirement for youth theatres to have a Child Safeguarding Statement in place. This statement is a separate document to your organisation's Child Protection and Welfare Policy and all youth theatres should ensure that they have a Child Safeguarding Statement in place.

The seminar will include:

  • A morning information session on the requirements of the legislation, including Mandated Reporting, Risk Assessments and Child Safeguarding Statements. This session will be delivered by Louise Monaghan from the National Youth Council of Ireland's Child Protection Programme.

  • An afternoon advice session on carrying out a Risk Assessment and developing your organisation's Child Safeguarding Statement.

In order to maximise the benefit from the seminar, participants are advised to come prepared. It is advised that you create a draft Child Safeguarding Statment in advance of the seminar. Youth Theatre Ireland will release a template tailored to youth theatres in advance of the seminar, but youth theatres can also refer to Tusla's Guidance on Developing a Child Safeguarding Statement, which includes a very useful template.

Please note: Attendance is open to members of Youth Theatre Ireland only. Places are limited to one booking per youth theatre.

Tea & Coffee will be available from 10.30am
