Description

This is a 3 part workshop presented by Brenda Cassidy, Occupational Therapist and Mum of a child with dyspraxia & hypersensitive Sensory Processing Disorder. Brenda has developed and taught the highly successful 'REGULATION STATIONS' (TM) brain organising & brain calming programme for the past year which is being run in hundreds of schools all over Ireland.

New for 2018, Brenda is bringing to Dublin her fun, motivational and practical workshops 'SENSORY MADE SIMPLE' - a 3 part workshop which will be run between 3.30pm & 5pm on 3 Wednesdays - January 17th, 24th & 31st. Class teachers, SEN staff, SNAs & parents are welcome to come along.

Part 1: Understanding sensory issues in the modern day classroom: Brenda will explain (in her down to earth easy to undertand way) the different types of sensory issues seen in mainstream classrooms. She will demystify how OVERSENSITIVE CHILDREN feel and see the world. She will simply explian why some children FIDGET, MOVE, SQUIRM, SHOUT OUT, SHOW POOR ATTENTION & CONCENTRATION and why many SEEM to have behavioural issues which may be sensory issues.Brenda will explain why some children appear 'sloth like' and disengaged in class. You will learn about the difference between sensory issues & ADHD.

Part 2: Simple ways to help children with various sensory issues manage better in school. Brenda will demonstrate a number of cheap simple items that can be obtained easily and stored as a 'SENSORY' box in your classroom or home. She will explain how to set up 'sensory spaces' or 'sensory zones' for your home or school.

She will provide a handout to help you choose items and ideas that may help the sensory child learn attend & behave better in school & home.

Part 3 : Simple Sensory Breaks. After requests from hundreds of school staff (SNAs in particular) Brenda will spend an entire workshop dedicated to SENSORY BREAKS. She will help you decide how often a child should have a sensory break, how long a break should last and she will provide a menu of simple sensory break activities that you can take away, laminate and use daily. These sensory breaks are essential for the sensory child to tolerate a day in school and for parents to use to get through the minefield of homework.
