Event description

Description

Setting Goals for a Better Ireland in a New World

A Claiming Our Future Event with Dochas and the Wheel

Date: Saturday 20 April 2013,

Venue: Clyde Theatre, RDS, Ballsbridge, Dublin

Time: Registration 10.00am – Opening: 11.00 am – Close: 4.00 pm

You are invited to debate and build an agenda for Irish, EU and world leaders on the Ireland we want and the world we want.

Ireland is growing more unequal, poverty is deepening, unemployment continues at an unacceptable level, and emigration is in full flow. We need a new model of development for Ireland and a new set of goals to guide and shape national strategy and public policy. This event will identify a set of development goals for Ireland and for the wider world based on values of equality, environmental sustainability, social justice and participation.

Ireland holds the Presidency of the European Union just as the EU develops its policy position on what should follow the Millennium Development Goals of the United Nations. This event provides an opportunity to influence the debate on the goals that should shape the future for Ireland and for the wider world. The conclusions from the event will be presented to EU Development Ministers prior to their May Council meeting.

Thanks to those who have taken up our invitation to join a debate and build an agenda for Irish, European and world leaders on the Ireland we want and the world we want. We look forward to your participation.

Work is progressing on the event. We have now developed a draft agenda that can be seen below. We would be happy to get any feedback from you on this agenda to info@claimingourfuture.ie.

There is still time to register. We promise lively, fruitful and entertaining debate. We offer a chance to make your input to the future of global development at a moment of deep crisis in Ireland and around the world. We hope to build a challenging agenda that would advance equality, social justice and environmental sustainability in Ireland and the wider world. We can only do this with your participation.

Lunch will be provided
