Heritage Diesel Railtour from Dublin Connolly-Cork-Limerick-Ennis-Athenry-Athlone-Dublin Connolly
About this event
Saturday 11th June 2022
The Railway Preservation Society of Ireland is delighted to announce the "Shades of Grey" diesel railtour hauled by Iarnród Éireann 071 Class GM locomotives throughout.
It is scheduled to depart from Dublin (Connolly) at 09:00 and head South West from the capital via Drumcondra and Islandbridge Junction to join the Dublin to Cork mainline. The tour will take the down fast line and make a call at Portarlington (09:59) to pick up passengers. We will make a brief stop at Ballybrophy and Limerick Junction for photographs. We will then continue express to Cork Kent with an arrival expected for 12:12.
Following the run round of the loco, we are expected to depart Cork Kent at 12:50 and run express to Limerick via Limerick Junction with arrival in the Treaty city for 14:25 where we will have a 90 minute break to service the train and passengers can explore the city. We have requested a change of loco at Limerick with the Limerick Pilot taking over from Limerick back to Dublin via the Western Rail Corridor.
With the long single line section from Limerick to Ennis and a busy passenger service, our path North along the Western Rail Corridor has us departing Colbert station at 16:00, with photo stops scheduled for Ennis, Gort and on to Athenry. From Athenry we re-join the Galway to Dublin route via Portarlington and return East to the capital crossing various West bound services en route. We will have a set down stop in Portarlington at 19:55. Express then back to Dublin Connolly with an expected arrival time of 20:55.
As with previous diesel railtours this one is sure to very popular and will sell out quickly so don't delay and get your booking in as soon as possible.
The train will be made up of our Cravens coaching stock complete with usual facilities of snack car serving a variety of hot and cold items throughout the day alongside our renowned bar car with draught and bottled beverages available all day.
