Introduction to Politics
SHESchool is about explaining local politics in Ireland, where you fit in, and what to do to have a say in what goes on. There are three classes in this introduction to politics course.
Wednesday 14th October, 7pm. Active Citizenship and Political Language. What is active citizenship? What does left and right mean and are people mobilising under either banner within or beyond what we accept to be active citizenship?
Wednesday 21st October, 7pm. Local Government in Ireland. What is the purpose, structure, and function of a Council? What is the relationship between elected councillors and those who work in the Council? What are the opportunities for active citizens to be involved in decision making?
Wednesday 28th October, 7pm. Councillors. What does the job consist of, and what's the pay like? Why are there so few women? Are many councillors feminists?
