Inishowen Rivers TrustClimate scientists predict that flooding will become a more frequent occurrence for the future. In recent months Inishowen has experienced a number of flooding events that has presented our communities with many challenges. What can be done to alleviate the impacts of these floods? What steps can we take to understand and prepare for the future?

The Inishowen Rivers Trust are bringing together experts in the field of flooding and natural flood managment (NFM) to discuss flood impacts and explore possible solutions. These experts will give individual presentations on their area of expertise followed by an open discussion with the audience. Anja Murray, Eco Eye presenter and ecologist will host the evening. Expert speakers include:

Dan Turner, Yorkshire Dales Rivers Trust - a project officer who implements and monitors a natural flood management strategy for the area in collaboration with farmers and landowners.

Dr. Mary Bourke, Trinity College Dublin - a geomorphologist with a expertise in extreme flood events

Conor Galvin, Office of Public Works - The OPW has a key responsibility for assessing flood risk and engineering solutions.

Brendan Maguire & Gerry McCafferty, Inland Fisheries Ireland - Senior Fisheries Environmental Officer and Inspector with responsibility for protection, conservation and management of fisheries in the rivers of Inishowen

In addition the 'River in a Box' model will be at the event and staff from Ballinderry Rivers Trust will demonstrate how rivers react to faster flows or flood waters. The audience will get the chance to modify the river and see how it reacts to different scenarios. The river demo model is open from 6-6.50pm. Presentations begin at 7pm. Light refreshments will be served.
