So You Want to Pursue Photo Projects – A Panel Discussion
Event Information
Description
On our last day in the Library Project we would like to invite you to a free panel discussion with some of the featured artists from this issue of Junior.
Jamin Keogh, Catarina Leone, Roisin White as well as the Junior editors will be discussing the concept of the “body of work”. How do you start with an idea and see it through to completion? Moreover, how do we define “completion”?
The speakers will share the ideas and stories behind their projects as well as respond to audience questions about their practice. Our aim is to give these emerging artists the platform they deserve while also creating an informal space for the sharing of information between peers.
Jamin Keogh is a photographic artist based between Dublin and Limerick. His project ‘Moyross Study’ is an investigation into the effects of a controversial regeneration scheme on the Limerick suburb. Keogh investigates and re-contextualises this dramatic transformation in the topography of present day Moyross. It is an articulation of the everyday feelings and experiences that are connected to the forced transition of Moyross – from a densely populated open planned estate, to an enclosed, barren, penal like space. By examining the topographical restructuring of the area, ’Moyross Study’ raises questions about the nature and purpose of this urban regeneration project.
Catarina Leone is a visual artist who creates mixed-media artworks using photography, film, performance and montage. ‘Chrysalis’ explores the notions of power and agency in relation to the role of the Irish housewife. Through the medium of the family album, the series critiques the capitalist and patriarchal gaze which views housework as naturally and intrinsically feminine.
Roisin White is a visual artist based in Dublin, Ireland. Her work incorporates a diverse range of source materials ranging from archival imagery to her own photography. ’Sept’ is White’s attempt to create fictionalised narrative composed of appropriated imagery. It follows the survivor of a murder- suicide as she grapples with the trauma of her past.
