Description

SPACE MOVIE NIGHT

Apollo 13 (1995).

Doors open at 18:00 in the PACCAR Theatre of Science Gallery Dublin. Running time is 140min.

This shall be our third Space Movie Night! July is extra special because July is Astronaut Month for us at Inspire Space. On July 15th we have NASA astronaut Dan Tani coming to speak for us - so to begin thinking about the mechanics of space travel we are screening Apollo 13 (1995) on Thursday July 13th!

The words "Houston, we have a problem" were immortalized during the tense days of the Apollo 13 lunar mission crisis. Astronaut Jim Lovell (Tom Hanks), Jack Swigert (Kevin Bacon) and Fred Haise (Bill Paxton) embarked on the third manned mission to land on the moon in 1970. All goes smoothly until an oxygen tank explodes, threatening the missions and the astronauts' lives. The astronauts have to abandon the mission and get back to Earth before it is too late. The movie shows the tensions and challenges the three astronauts faced in the Apollo 13 capsule as they try to get home. This movie is suitable for all ages and is a great way to prepare for the space weekend ahead.

Apollo 13 is a PG rated movie.

Inspire Space is a non profit organisation set up to inspire and educate people about space. Space Movie Night is a monthly event, each month screening a different space movie.
