Understanding Guided Reading in the Classroom
Introduction Level (Aimed at New Attendees)
Guided Reading is a strategy used to teach children how to be balanced readers. Guided Reading sessions are usually twenty minutes long and involve a teacher working with a group of children focusing on identified objectives. Children are usually grouped by matching them to levelled texts.
This workshop will focus on matching children to text and organising for Guided Reading. We will cover the following:
- Teaching strategies for reading : Modelled and Shared Reading, Guided Reading Independent Reading
- Guided and independent strategies to support and extend student learning
- The Guided Reading process
- Guided Reading within the Literacy Block
- Guided Reading book levels
- Planning and Programming for Guided Reading
- Error analysis: Meaning Structure, Visual
