Streets Ahead is a brand new streets arts professional development programme which has been developed by

This innovative programme has been designed to support and develop a range of street artists across varying stages of their careers.

New to Street Arts?

This street skills strand is aimed at arts practitioners working in arts, health, educational and social contexts who are emerging or new to street arts. This professional development strand is subsidised by Cork City Arts Office with the support of Creative Ireland and therefore FREE to participants. Places are limited to 20 participants and full attendance is required. Over the course of 8 weeks participants will discover the following:

  • Historical and Social Context of Street Arts as a movement.
  • Looking at the various forms and mediums available to Street arts.
  • Do’s and don’ts for working in public space.
  • How to engage an audience/community in the public space.

So, if you are hungry to learn and ready for a challenge, then here is the perfect opportunity to learn from industry leaders who have been and are still driving the Street Arts movement.

History & social context of Street Arts

2 sessions: Tuesday 4 and  Tuesday 11 May at 11am - 12.30pm

Creating illuminated art works, large and small

1 Session: Tuesday 18 May at 11am - 12.30pm

Session 4 & 5: William Frode de la Foret (Cork Community Art Link) and Mike Leahy (Spraoi)

Procession, installation and community engagement

2 sessions: Tuesday 25 May and Tuesday 1 June at 11am - 12.30pm

Session 6: Miriam Dunne (Freelance Consultant/Programmer)

The do’s and don’ts for working in public spaces

1 session: Tuesday 8 June at 11am - 12.30pm

Session 7: Con Horgan (Fanzini Productions) and Cormac Mohally (Lords of Strut)

Audience engagement & street performance

1 session: Tuesday 15 June at 11am - 12.30pm

Session 8: Shane O'Driscoll (Ardú) and Holly Pereira (Minaw Collective)

Graffiti/mural/visual art in public spaces

1 session: Tuesday 22 June at 11am - 12.30pm

How to Sign Up

Places will be allocated according to eligibility. Priority will be given to Cork City-based practitioners.

Eligibility will be assessed based on provision of information provided in the sign up form.

Deadline to sign up is Thursday 22 April 2021, 5pm.

Everyone who signs up with be notified of successful placement on the programme on Tuesday 27 April 2021.

Please Note: Each workshop will be recorded. The recording will be shared with participants. Non-consent to being recorded does not make a candidate ineligible. Those who do not want to be recorded can simply participate with cameras off.
