Love’s but the Frailty of the Mind’
Works featured include 16th and 17th C collection of lute songs and duets. ‘Chant21’, an ensemble specialised in European Baroque repertoire, will present a selection of charming early Baroque love songs and duets, accompanied by lute, and created by well and lesser -known composers such as: C. MONTEVERDI; H. PURCELL or W. CORKINE. The lightness matched with musical drama and emotional expression of the repertoire featuring in today’s performance will be rendered by Chant21’s highly experienced and devoted early music interpreters. The musicians will include Jerzy Zak, a renowned lutenist from Warsaw, an Irish soprano Eileen Coyle and a Dublin based tenor Jacek Wislocki. Once again, our program will show how music connects people and cultures by contrasting musical masterpieces form southern and northern Europe (Italy and England). We are hoping that vivid and affective repertoire proposed for the concerts, spanning from the Monteverdi’s sensual ‘Pur ti miro’, through L'Incoronazione di Poppea, to relaxing pieces for lute solo will have something for everyone to enjoy.
Chant21 has been present on the Irish artistic scene for the past five years, thanks to the generous support of the Arts Council as well as the Dublin City Council and some private sponsors. The ensemble managed to establish for itself an enthusiastic, multinational audience representing Dublin’s music lovers, including Ireland’s Polish minority and international academics. Favourable feedback received following our previous 17th C chamber music concerts (funded by Arts Council/ Dublin City Council awards 2017-2019) highlights the project’s prominent role in the cultural integration between Dublin ‘s varied communities. The ensemble gave its first concert in Ireland in 2017 by gathering some of the world-class artists to perform outstanding sacred music of 17thc Poland for the very first time in Ireland.
