About this event
This talk focuses on Vocabulary Development in the Juniors and Seniors and the importance of the explicit teaching of vocabulary within classroom practices. This type of instruction teaches students strategies for deciphering the meaning of new words, resulting in stronger independent reading skills due to an improved ability to construct the meaning of a text.
Stephen Brett is a principal of a Deis school in South Dublin. He is a former adjunct lecturer in DCU and is a literacy specialist for DCU's Write to Read Project. Here, he supports many schools in their literacy practice whilst also visiting schools and education centres to support teacher's professional development.
