Suturing Skills for Minor Trauma

About this event
This hands-on course will outline the principles of when to close a superficial wound by primary intention and when to choose an alternative strategy. The course will take place in the ASSERT surgical skills lab and will start with the basics of knot tying, instrument handling and suture selection. Through a combination of history taking, examination and correct wash out of a variety of synthetic and biological simulated wounds, you will assess and manage the presented wound accordingly. For those that are suitable for primary closure you will be guided on careful tissue preparation, debridement if needed, the type of suturing method that will enable you to learn and practice the closure of straight and irregular wounds.

- Increase your proficiency in the management of superficial traumatic wounds.
- Gain more confidence in decision making on wound closure strategies.
- Improve your skills in simple and more complex suturing methods.
- Gain knowledge of wound management to enable good wound healing.
