Table Tennis Teachers Training Award

Purpose and Overview of the Course:

• Increase numbers of coaches at grassroots level

• Develop basic knowledge and skills for coaching table tennis

• Collaboration project to achieve mutual benefits by creating “Active Schools & Communities”

• Part of the Female Leadership FEMpowerment Programme (WIS only)

Suitable Candidates: (You do not need to have a background in playing table tennis)

• Multi-Sport Coaches & Sports Development Officers

• Teachers (primary and secondary school)

• Pupils Age 15 or over; Transition Year Pupils (South of Ireland)

• Volunteers & Community/Youth Leaders

Course Duration:

• 3 hours

Course Content:

Module 1: Introduction of the Course

Module 2: Health and Safety

Module 3: Developing Grip

Module 4: Bat/Ball Skills and Hand Eye Coordination

Module 5: Table Tennis Ready Position and Basic Footwork

Module 6: Introduction to 2 Strokes (Forehand Drive and Backhand Drive)

Module 7: Basic Table Tennis Rules and Regulations

Module 8: Competition Ideas

Outcomes and Benefit of the Course:

• Each candidate will receive a Teacher’s Award Certificate when course is completed

• Ready to deliver School/Community Table Tennis Programmes

• Receive all benefits as a member of TTI

• Develop links between the school/group and their local Table Tennis Club(s) which offers a pathway for those who wish to keep playing table tennis regularly
