Description

In this seminar Dr. Trudie Roberts will explore the notion of professionalism and how it might be taught and assessed. Although she will concentrate on her experience in medicine and dentistry, the principles she will cover are applicable to all healthcare professionals and those interested in teaching professionalism in higher education. She will briefly discuss whether we can treat poor professionalism like poor knowledge and skills and provide remediation. Finally, she will share some work that she is currently undertaking involving a framework for remediation.

This interactive seminar will explore the nature of professionalism in Higher Education

  1. Define what is meant by medical professionalism

  2. Understand the importance of medical professionalism in medical education

  3. Describe different ways of teaching professionalism

  4. Consider where, when and how to assess professionalism

  5. Reflect on the issues around remediation of poor professionalism
