About this event
SPLICED is a raw and real one-man show!
Timmy Creed plays hurling. He loves it, he hates it, but for better or worse, it’s a part of him. Written with sportspeople in mind, this one man show, uses everything Timmy’s experience in the GAA has to offer - he is physically and mentally stepping on and off the grass to portray the toll the expectations of the game took on him, and what an overriding single focus does to a young mind.
Honest, brave, joyous and hard-hitting, Spliced is a visceral account of Timmy's struggle to become an individual outside of the sporting institution that raised him. Let’s talk about identity, masculinity and mental health in the clubs at the heart of our communities.
SPLICED is a raw, visceral account of Timmy’s struggle to become an individual outside the sporting institution that raised him, Ireland’s Gaelic Athletic Association. He is celebrating and questioning it. Can we talk about mental health, self-expression and masculinity in a sporting context?
Ages 14+, please note, the show contains adult themes.
Reviews
‘’writer-actor Timmy Creed’s explosive one-man show Spliced… the tension is palpable, as if a match is about to start… a love-hate relationship he can’t escape. ...this intense production fearlessly tackles Irish masculine stereotypes. Creed is one to watch.’’
(The Sunday Times)
“ ‘Brave’ is how my theatre companion described Timmy Creed’s self-penned autobiographical one-man show about his love/hate relationship with the GAA. Performing his play on home turf, in the handball alley of Bishopstown GAA Club, he dares to challenge the machismo that accompanies Gaelic games. Creed’s performance is highly physical, including well-aimed pucks of the sliothar, imaginary snow-boarding, ballet, miming and yoga. Creed obviously knows his tribe, and this hard-hitting play, directed by Gina Moxley, reveals a complex relationship with the GAA and the need for sportsmen to address mental health.”
