The Artist's Way, a 13-week course based on Julia Cameron's book.
Sun 23 April 2017, 16:00 – 18:00 BST
The Artist's Way book was written 30 years ago by Julia Cameron, a writer, screenwriter, artist and all round creative person. The idea is that you read a chapter a week and start doing your morning pages first thing when you get up - three A5 size pages of stream of consciousness, whatever is in your head, put it down on the page. Don't read any of your Morning pages until the eight week. Another tool is to go on an Artist's date every week with your creative child. He/She may be very young and might just want to draw a picture or mess with paints. The important thing is to have fun with your artist's date and they don't have to cost any money.
At the end of each chapter there are about a dozen tasks, all designed to awaken your confidence, your creativity and your passion. Some peole join an Artist's Way group and their real passion isn't writing, it's painting!
The course is for 13 weeks, two hours a week. You are invited to sign a contract to commit yourself to doing your Morning pages, going on your artist's dates and completing the tasks. It's a lot of fun and the group (limited to 8 people) end up supporting each other as they talk about being blocked or procrastinating on doing their Morning pages. We give time in each class for people to talk about what's happening for them in relation to their morning pages, their artist's dates and the tasks.
